Enjoying one of those golden warm sunsets during this family photography session on the beach. A beautiful evening on the Oregon Coast. Heather was planning an extended family vacation in Arch Cape and contacted me to capture photos of her family during their stay. I suggested we photograph in Arch Cape where they was staying. A perfect location with a mix of forest, beach, rocks and ocean. Arch Cape is slow pace beautiful town just south of Cannon Beach with lots of space to roam and explore a sparsely used beach.
We began our session on a grassy hill overlooking the ocean and captured a variety of photo groupings. There were two families, including 5 kiddos and the grandparents. Everyone was super happy and having a fun evening. I love capturing group photos with everyone together to get things started. Some standard portraits and some fun and candid images. Then we photographed all the kids with the grandparents and the kids all grouped together. A great cousins photo. :) After that some pictures of each family and a good individual of each kid and the siblings photos. When it comes to photographing with little ones I try to capture all the necessary groupings in the first part of the session. That way we have all the most important photos in the camera roll and we can duplicate that in different locations.
After photos overlooking the rocks and ocean we gave the kids a little break to run around and have fun. They immediately ran down the sandy hill laughing and found a sand castle to play with. This moment made for some really natural and candid photos to capture them in their element. The kiddos quickly made an imaginary game with the sandy hill. Something about the beach that makes for pure enjoyment.
With a little play time we then photographed another group photo, pictures of the grandparents and some candid photos of each family. I really try to photograph an array of group photos sprinkled with candid and lifestyle photos. As the sun started to go lower in the sky the orange glow was reflecting on the ocean and rocky point. We photographed some sitting on the sand and walking in the tide line, just out enough to catch that reflection and make for some spectacular pictures.
As our 1 hour session started to wrap up we felt super excited for the memories that were captured. Heather’s family had an amazing vacation visiting the Oregon Coast and Arch Cape. They spent some time in Cannon Beach exploring the shops and beaches there. With so many options for relaxing and exploring nature and beach towns in the area. I was ecstatic to help preserve these memories of this family on their adventure together on the Oregon Coast.
